Frequently Asked Questions
Open prints are available in limited selected sizes. The specific dimensions for each work can be found on the individual item pages. Prints adhere to the exact aspect ratios of the original works. In short, not all prints are available in all sizes.
Original and limited-edition prints are museum-grade collectible art featuring master-level production, archival inks and/or paint, and acid-free substrates that can last for generations. These works were envisioned by the artist to be a specific size and aspect ratio, so that is all we offer.
Open-edition prints are printed reproductions of an artist’s original works. Excellent workmanship and materials are also used, and artists often make open editions available in several sizes, different materials, or even digital files that buyers can self-print.
Naturally, reproduction prints are not suitable for collecting as potential investment purposes. Instead, they’re an affordable alternative for those who fall in love with a particular artist’s imagery and would like something representative of that talent for their home at a price point more aligned with their needs.
In-house originals and many of the limited-edition works can usually be processed, packaged and shipped in less than a week. If a particular work is not already in one of our locations, there may be a delay of up to two weeks.
Ardstrum keeps stock of some popular works, but the majority of open-edition prints are printed on demand and thus subject to our printing partners’ workloads. Delivery times are subject to current workflow, plus we respect regional holidays.
Delivery times will vary based on origin and destination. Generally, all prints are shipped in less than ten days.
We offer a no-hassle, seven-day return policy. Upon request, we will instruct you how and where to return the package. Note: Unwrap the works you receive carefully so that the original packing materials can be used to return the works safely.
Contact us as soon as possible through either the email or phone numbers provided with the documents that accompany the order. Please note that we will ask you to take photos of the damage. This is a requirement of the claims process that we must submit to most couriers.
Unless the buyer is blatantly and knowingly at fault for mishandling or mistreatment, we offer two options: replacement or refund.
Ardstrum has decades of experience handling and shipping valuable artworks. Depending on the type and size of work, we use the most appropriate packing materials to ensure they arrive safe and sound. This may require anything from a wooden or carton crate to smaller cardboard packages and rolls.
For international orders, we strongly recommend purchasing unframed pieces. Framing not only adds significantly to the cost of shipping, it also increases the risk of damage when couriers fail to respect packages clearly marked fragile. The easiest, cheapest, and safest way for us to ship is in a double-roll (inner/outer) packaging.
The savings to you in lower shipping and handling charges will easily cover the costs of framing on your end. The added advantage is that you get to choose your own frame since we offer only contemporary gallery-style floating frames for large works and simple matt/frame/clear acrylic frames for prints and limited editions that require protection.
Also worthy of note, Ardstrum can neither collect nor pay the costs of duty and taxes when shipping internationally. In many nations, customs rates for importing products are calculated not only on the cost of the artwork but also the shipping charges!! This can significantly raise the price of the landed goods for the buyer.
For us, it’s important that we make this clear upfront since the costs to us when a work is returned are substantial, especially when the disapproval is caused only by unanticipated importation costs.
Of course. Once a package is passed to the courier, we will forward you the tracking number and the website where it can be tracked.
Currently, we ship stocked originals and limited editions to over thirty countries. Please contact us if your country does not appear.
For open edition prints, we have printing partners in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Southeast Asia. We assign your order to the appropriate affiliate, thus assuring the shortest possible delivery times and avoidance of customs & duty delays. As we develop our network of reputable couriers, this list will grow.
Due to tax collection concerns, we are currently not selling and shipping to mainland Europe. For more information, please contact us.
Available payment methods include bank transfers, PayPal, and credit/debit card payments through PayPal’s secured servers. We do not collect and store any of your financial information on our server or computers. Payments are managed solely by the respective payment gateways and banks. For all international transactions, funds must be received before packages are released for shipment.
We also offer volume discounts, and corporate accounts for qualified companies and art world professionals. Galleries can contact us to initiate discussion.
Recommendations are included with each order. Essentially, we sell artworks that must be cared for like any other piece of original art, photograph, or print.
Artworks have lived for centuries when displayed and/or stored in conditions compatible with comfortable human life.
All originals and limited-edition works were completed prior to posting on our website. Customization is therefore impossible. However, in some cases, artists do have similar works available, and occasionally they’re in different sizes.
Please contact us for more information. We can discuss possibilities with our artists regarding custom prints and/or offering more sizes of open-edition works. The artists usually treat these requests as one-of-a-kind commissions.
Smaller works such as drawings and watercolors are almost always framed, unless we receive a special request or a large rush order that makes sense to ship unframed.
Large works are indeed shipped unframed in most cases. One of the perils of selling art internationally is the costs of shipping, especially since some countries add those costs into the price BEFORE calculating the percentages of applicable taxes and import duties to be paid by the receiver/buyer.
Works that are less than about three feet square are generally not egregiously expensive to ship to most destinations. For larger works, we strongly recommend purchasing the piece(s) unframed since the additional costs of shipping, handling, and import fees will most definitely dwarf the cost of having a trusted local framer add an appropriate contemporary stretcher or frame.
If in doubt, please contact us prior to placing an order. We can quote you the approximate costs of shipping for large framed works if that is your only option.
